My kind of holiday: the king salmon troll season opened July 1st in Southeast Alaska.
Sending best wishes & fair seas across the GOA. (And apologies there are no cookies this year, Dad.)

Darkness is coming. We might as well prepare for winter now.

It's like living in a private version of the Sound of Music, except instead of living with a group of Austrian children, it's just me and a giant flock of bald eagles.

I've been in Unalaska for five days.
You buy internet access the way you used to buy phone cards for long distance calls. There are wild orchids growing in the tundra, and so many humpback whales offshore that they've created a traffic hazard while drivers slow down to look.
We've been working all weekend on coverage for the 75th anniversary of the bombing of Dutch Harbor, and evacuation and internment of the Ungangax people from the islands.
Updates will probably be slower while I'm here. But the view walking home isn't bad.
