Emperor Geese (“perhaps the most striking goose in North America,” according to Birds of North America) migrate from sub-arctic Alaska & Russia to spend the winter in the (comparatively) mild Aleutian islands. After population declines in the ‘80s and ‘90s, Alaska residents got the opportunity to hunt them again for the first time in the fall of 2017 (and the season expanded to include non-residents as in 2018). Alas, like any true Emperor, the bag limit is one. Unalaska, January 2019.
